The Way of the Bodhisattva
The Way of the Bodhisattva L42 The main speaker of this session is Khenpo Sodargye The Enduring Torment of Afflictions: Why Inner Foes Are Terribler Than Worldly Enemies
In this teaching, Khenpo Sodargye emphasizes the absolute necessity of continuously studying the Dharma without dropping out, highlighting that interrupting the transmission creates an unfavorable karmic pattern for future lives. He shares his gratitude toward those supporting the spread of Buddhist teachings and reminds practitioners to prioritize Dharma study over worldly excuses. Continuing the text of the Bodhicharyavatara, Khenpo contrasts worldly enemies with the inner enemy of afflictions. While a worldly foe can only destroy one's physical life or property in this lifetime, unchecked afflictions can force a person to break their vows and cast them into the interminable sufferings of the hell realms. He teaches that afflictions have tormented sentient beings since beginningless time. Furthermore, appeasing a worldly enemy might eventually win their favor, but indulging in afflictions will only lead to greater suffering and destruction.
