The Way of the Bodhisattva
The Way of the Bodhisattva L45 The main speaker of this session is Khenpo Sodargye Using Righteous Anger to Destroy Afflictions
Continuing the explanation of the Bodhicharyavatara, Khenpo Sodargye highlights the absolute necessity of diligence and patience in practicing the Mahayana path. He contrasts the exhausting, often meaningless struggles of ordinary people—such as fishermen and builders who endure harsh weather and immense pressure just to survive—with the profound significance of a bodhisattva's commitment. Since we have vowed to liberate all beings, we must not let minor discomforts deter us. Furthermore, to fulfill our promise to free others from their afflictions, we must first learn to tame our own. Khenpo introduces the method of using a form of "righteous anger" or resentment specifically directed at our own negative defilements, encouraging practitioners to fight relentlessly against their inner enemies without ever giving up their bodhicitta.
