The Way of the Bodhisattva
The Way of the Bodhisattva L49 The main speaker of this session is Khenpo Sodargye How Discipline, Patience, and Diligence Are Perfected in the Mind
In this session on the Bodhicharyavatara, Khenpo Sodargye continues to explain how the six paramitas are rooted fundamentally in the mind. Relying on Shantideva's verses, he refutes the idea that the paramita of discipline requires purifying the external world; rather, it is perfected solely by generating a firm resolve to abandon harmful actions. Similarly, the paramita of patience cannot be achieved by eliminating all external enemies, which are as infinite as space. By conquering the single inner enemy of anger, one pacifies all hostility. Khenpo further elaborates on the paramita of diligence, explaining that true diligence is not merely performing physical prostrations or endless verbal recitations, but generating a profound, focused joy for virtue. Through relatable analogies and teachings from past masters, Khenpo emphasizes that managing one's own mind is the key to maintaining pure precepts, establishing harmony with others, and generating meaningful merit.
