The Sutra of Great Liberation
The Sutra of Great Liberation L30 30
This session offers a rare, honest look at the practice of repentance and the transformative power of faith. Khenpo Sodargye moves between ancient stories and modern realities, reflecting on why even those who have made mistakes or lost their way can find renewal through sincere confession and commitment. The teaching is grounded in real-life details—struggles with jealousy, the challenge of keeping faith in a noisy world, and the subtle dangers of slander and self-doubt. Through the lens of The Sūtra of Great Liberation, we see that true spiritual progress is not about perfection, but about the courage to face our own flaws, the humility to seek forgiveness, and the resilience to keep going. The session is both a practical guide and a deeply human meditation on how we can reconnect with meaning, community, and our own potential for change.
Teachings by Khenpo Sodargye. The Sutra of Great Liberation is a profound scripture taught by the Buddha near the time of his parinirvana. It is treasured in nearly every Tibetan household, where it is commonly recited for 49 days to help the deceased attain liberation. The sutra is filled with the sacred names of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and merely hearing or reciting them brings inconceivable merit. Khenpo Sodargye was deeply moved since childhood by witnessing a kind elderly man devotedly reciting this sutra daily, thus forming a profound connection with it. Through confession and practice of this sutra, one can purify negative karma and attain Buddhahood—it is truly an extraordinary path to liberation.
